Roadmap, personal writing and the yearly Writing Challenge

Progress on the Write Wise conversion has been a little slow, largely because I've been busy with all sorts of other things.

I want to continue making progress, so I've decided to put together a roadmap for the rest of the year. This roadmap shows the Write Wise projects I intend to complete before the year is over. You can read it here.

As you can see, some key features are going to be rolled out before the end of the year.

On the topic of my own personal writing, my plans for a novella have fallen through (for 2018 at least), but I do have 3 (hopefully soon to be 4) story drafts awaiting editing. So I will hopefully be submitting multiple entries to the Open Challenge soon enough.

Finally for now, the 2018 Writing Challenge will be opening in the coming weeks. The format will follow much the same as last year. I hope we can all enter again this year, as it was great having 3 entries last year.

Bulletins & Privacy

Write Wise is hosted in the EU and all of its members are EU citizens – therefore, complying with GDPR is fairly important! Luckily, Write Wise only collects the data you give it (such as story chapters, comments etc.). You can review our Privacy Policy by following the link below, to see how Write Wise collects and uses your data:

https://writewise.org/bulletin/privacy

You might also notice that our fancy new Privacy Policy is featured as a 'bulletin' on the front-page. This is a new feature that is coming to the Write Wise very soon. Authors will be able post bulletins, announcing story and writing news, and other site users will be able to reply and comment.

Stay tuned!

New Chapter Edit Coming

I've begun work on the next update to Write Wise, which will bring about simplified chapter editing.

Currently, editing a chapter is kind of awkward – there's a special button to paste from Word (that sometimes doesn't capture italics properly), it's not possible to underline or bold text, and the editor is slow to load and cramped.

The new editor will make use of a more modern RTE editor. Pasting from Word (or Writer, Google Docs etc.) should be like pasting any other text (so long as you are using a modern browser such as Opera or Chrome).

Progress on updating the site has been slow, but this isn't due to a lack of interest or commitment. In 2015, the foundations for the new Write Wise were set down and those foundations are as solid as ever. I've been busy with other projects and other commitments, but my commitments are finally starting to taper off and Write Wise will get my attention again.

When I get more time, I also intend to begin serious work on my novella. I've got a plan set down – this will be my first planned story in many years – and I'm looking forward to writing it. I hope everybody's well and I look forward to reading your future WW contributions.

Closing thoughts for the year

A massive thanks to those who entered this year's challenge, and to those who read the entries. I really enjoyed this year's entries and look forward to seeing what we all produce in 2018.

On a personal note, I have plans (tentative at the moment) to return to blogging, possibly with a focus on books. I also hope to get more time to write. I'd really love to write a novella and post it on Write Wise.

2018 ought to be a good year for the site.

Thanks and have a great Christmas.
